2024 sgc junior golf July 8th - 11th

The week of July 8th - 11th the Stamford Golf Course hosted the 2024 Stamford Junior Golf Summer Clinic for kids ages 9 - 17.  The clinic was filled to capacity with 54 students participating.  The clinic day began at 9:00 AM each day with three stations of instruction for the kids to rotate through in 25 minute blocks of time.  The stations were full swing instruction on the driving range, chipping instruction at the newly created practice target area, and putting instruction on the practice green.  After instruction and a break, the kids went out on the course for up to two hours of play from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM with a mentor for our younger participants playing a scramble format, and our older participants went out on the course on their own just like a high school golf match in an individual stroke play format.  The kids then came to the clubhouse for lunch to end the formal clinic day, but after lunch the kids were able to practice independently on the practice green and/of the chipping station or were able to go back on the course on their own with a family member for family play if they desired to do so.  On our final day of the clinic, our younger kids participated in a modified version of the Augusta National Drive, Chip, and Putt competition for individual prizes and our older kids went out on the course for stroke play competition and individual prizes.  It was a great week with fun times for all.

Jim Schouller, long time Stamford Golf Club Professional, for working the range all week for full swing instruction, assisted by long time member Richie Beers.
Jim Lees, instructor at the PGM Program at SUNY Delhi, for working the chipping station all week and being involved as an instructor at our Phys Ed units conducted in area schools during the regular school year along with Joe Burgin, also an instructor in the PGM Program at SUNY Delhi and their PGM Program students.  
Mike Bell, current Stamford Golf Club Professional, for working on putting instruction all week on the practice green assisted by longtime volunteer Jim Hamburger.  
Our mentors who took kids out on the course to help with play:  Jim Abel, Jim Adair, Jon Barber, Nikkie Brandt, Neil Cunningham, Gordy Faulkner, Kris Ferrell, Thomas Ferrell, Jim Hamburger, Matt McMullen, John Toroni, and Bob Van Valkenburgh.
The entire Pro Shop Staff for their day to day help with carts, getting us range balls, and clearing the range each day after the clinic activities were completed.
Joe Lambert, Ken Cole and the entire greens crew staff for setting up the new chipping practice area station and having the course ready for play each day.  
Sadie Hotaling and the entire staff of The Peppercorn on the Hill restaurant for ordering and preparing our delicious lunches each day of the clinic for the kids.
The past and present members of the Stamford Golf Club Board of Directors who supported us in putting the clinic together this year and years past.
Round Top Knit and Screening for again producing our camp tee shirts for the kids.
Dylan Thompson, professional at Christman’s Golf Course, who delivers and picks up our equipment to and from our local school districts for our Phys Ed units during the school year as well as assisting with in class instruction at the schools in these units.
